Improving Demographic Data Collection in Connecticut

On September 21, 2021 the Connecticut Equity in Data Community of Practice talked about the new CT statute that will standardize the collection of race, ethnicity, and language data across state agencies. This change will have implications for reporting by non-profits and for using state data.

During this session our guests from Connecticut’s Office of Health Strategy (Olga Armah and Alla Veyberman) presented about Section 11 (p. 14) of Public Act 21-35, and discussed the process they are currently undertaking to recommend to standardize this data collection. We also heard from Connecticut Representative Cristin McCarthy Vahey about why this legislation was so important to pass for Connecticut’s future.
