Hartford Youth Data Fellows Introduces Teens to Real-World Data Gathering
Ten youth from Hartford - high school seniors, college students and recent graduates - have joined CTData’s Hartford Data Collaborative this year to serve as the third class of Hartford Youth Data Fellows. The students serve as co-researchers with the Hartford Data Collaborative throughout an extensive 5-month program, which launched in January and runs through early June. Read more here.

Recidivism Analysis of the Hartford Reentry Welcome Center
The Hartford Data Collaborative (HDC) facilitated the collection and sharing of project data. Prior to CCSU’s involvement in this project, the HDC entered into data sharing agreements with Community Partners in Action, the Connecticut Department of Correction, the Connecticut Judicial Branch, and the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness. The HDC oversaw the collection, de-identification, and initial cleaning of these electronic data, which were then transferred to CCSU where they were matched and analyzed for this evaluation.

We are a member of the Actional Intelligence for Social Policy (AISP) Network and our work has been highlighted in several AISP publications, including A Toolkit for Centering Racial Equity Throughout Data Integration (2025) and Finding a Way Forward: How to Create a Strong Legal Framework for Data Integration. (2022).
HDC Governance Policies & Practices Highlighted in International Journal
The Hartford Data Collaborative’s governance structure was featured in an article in the September 2023 International Journal of Population Data Science that outlines the minimum specifications (min specs) for reliable and trustworthy data governance policies. HDC was part of an international team that developed and tested the essential requirements for data sharing about people. The project highlights the need for strong data governance and management to ensure that the re-use of people’s data is kept secure, privacy protections are maintained, and appropriate controls are in place. HDC's team received the 2024 Network Steward of the Year Award from NNIP
This marked the first time this honor was bestowed on an entire staff rather than an individual, recognizing their generous sharing of project lessons, multiple contributions to NNIP meetings including presentations on youth programming and voter participation initiatives, and their mentorship of potential partners NNIP awards Network Steward of the Year to the Connecticut Data Collaborative team. The award highlighted HDC's commitment to peer learning and their role in strengthening the broader NNIP network through knowledge sharing and collaboration.
CTData accepted as a partner in the National Neighborhood Indicators Partnership (NNIP) in 2023
NNIP is a national network of local organizations in 31 cities that helps communities use data to guide strategies and investments so all neighborhoods can thrive. CTData was accepted into the network based on its strong track record and commitment to improving data literacy, expanding the use of data, and involving residents—including youth—in shaping data efforts that improve lives in Hartford. This recognition also affirmed the work of the Hartford Data Collaborative (HDC) in advancing data-driven decision-making and deepening community engagement across Connecticut.
