Hartford Youth Researchers Begin Work this Spring

On Thursday, April 21st, CTData and staff from its Hartford Data Collaborative welcomed its first class of Hartford Youth Researchers. The six youth—who range in age from 16-21-- will be reviewing, analyzing, and reporting on data related to Youth Behavioral Health alongside staff from the Hartford Data Collaborative. In the April workshop, Hartford Youth Researchers engaged in discussions about data literacy and identifying data for a Hartford Youth Profile that will provide the Hartford Data Collaborative and its city partners with insights on city youth and their needs.

Hartford Youth Researchers will participate in two more workshops in May on data analysis and data storytelling. They will analyze data integrated from city providers of youth engagement programs funded by federal COVID-19 relief funds, to better understand the impact of federal funds and enhance ongoing youth engagement efforts in Hartford. The Youth Researchers will present their findings to city, community, and state leaders in early June.

Earlier this year, CTData received an $80,000, seven-month grant funded by Data Across Sectors for Health (DASH), part of a multi-state initiative, Learning and Action in Policy and Partnerships (LAPP), supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This grant funds the work of the Hartford Youth Researchers, and Hartford Data Collaborative’s data integration services for city youth programs, and the development of a behavioral health integration project using state data. Connecticut is one of 5 states participating in this round of funding to improve data sharing and integration around social determinants of health.
