Data Strategic Planning

is a series of workshops and individualized coaching sessions that guide organizations towards making more effective use of data.

We help you move towards making more informed decisions by aligning your data collection, analysis, and communication with your strategic goals.

Nearly 80 organizations around Connecticut have taken part in Data Strategic Planning since 2022, including advocacy organizations, social service providers, schools, cultural organizations, legal aid providers, housing groups, and state agencies.

Data Strategic Planning works in phases:

Phase I: Design your data plan

  • Increase data literacy skills

  • Understand how data can inform your work

  • Develop guiding questions and a simplified logic model

Phase II: Build your data plan

  • Identify strengths and gaps in your data practices

  • Align data with your strategic questions and desired outcomes

  • Assess your technology needs

Phase III: Implement your data plan

  • Develop data collection tools and processes

  • Provide support for implementing changes to data practices

  • Pilot new data practices to determine what works

How can Data Strategic Planning help you?

Quotations from recent participants:

“Data Strategic Planning has helped to focus my ideas about my organization’s goals and how to measure our impact. I’m very excited to move from a ‘game plan’ to a plan of action.”

“Watching you present about data at the workshop taught me how to improve how I share data with a group.”

“Having the opportunity to take the time and really start to understand how data is so important to our organization and mission was a real gift . . . Being able to begin to think about what our priorities are and how data is so involved in them was eye opening.”

“DSP has been an incredibly valuable resource for our team! We started with a list of questions we had no ideas how to approach solving and through our work with the DSP crew, we not only created systems to answer each one but also learned that we have gotten better at asking and answering questions on our own. DSP is a great judgment-free space to get ideas out and facilitate team conversations, making dedicated time to solve the problems you need to grow.”
