UNconference: Equity in Data Community of Practice

This month we are bringing back our UNconference, where we start the conversation with your questions, instead of someone else's answers.

An UNconference flips the traditional conference model: instead of an expert speaking to an audience, it centers on the interests and needs of the community. While all of our sessions are community-driven, this session gives us the unique opportunity to dive into specific topics, so you can openly talk about what matters to you most. In this informal gathering, attendees come together to talk, brainstorm, and exchange resources on topics chosen by the group.

Do you have an idea you'd like to explore with fellow community of practice members? We are looking for facilitators who want to spark conversation and learn among others. You don't need to be an expert, only curious! Each session lasts 30 minutes and will be supported by CTData staff. If you are interested, please complete this form.

About this group:

We are a group of data users in Connecticut who are supporting one another as we work toward more equitable data practices. We focus on racial equity explicitly but not exclusively.

Some of the topics we talk about include:

  • How can we make sure we don't make certain groups invisible through how we disaggregate our data?

  • How can we learn to focus our attention on the strengths, rather than the deficits, of groups we are seeking to serve or support?

  • How can we learn from the people who we hope will benefit from our products or services about what their data means to them?

  • How can we help the institutions that we are part of to be trustworthy so that people will trust us with their information/data?

You can read more about our past events here.

Please feel free to check out the group. And if it is helpful, please share it!
