On May 7, 2026, CTData hosted our annual Hartford Youth Data Spotlight, showcasing youth-led research projects that demonstrated how young people can use data to better understand and address issues facing their communities. This year's event highlighted the work of two groups of young researchers who partnered with CTData throughout the past year.
On Thursday, March 12, the Hartford Youth Data Fellows welcomed a team from Hartford Votes-Vota Coalition for an engaging and informative session focused on civic participation in Hartford. The visit brought together 10 current fellows along with 3 alumni who are continuing their work as youth researchers studying access to sports and recreation across the city.
The Hartford Neighborhood Data Platform (HNDP) is a data exploration tool developed by CTData Collaborative to empower city and community organizations, policymakers, and residents with access to neighborhood-level data.
On the afternoon of Tuesday May 13th, inside the historic Hall of Flags at the Connecticut State Capitol, Hartford youth took the spotlight. The 2025 Hartford Youth Data Walk, hosted by CTData, brought together young people, community leaders, nonprofit partners, and policymakers to engage with powerful, youth-led presentations rooted in local data. The 2025 Hartford Youth Data Fellows hosted members from Hartford Decides at the Swift Factory this past March, creating a powerful intersection of youth engagement, data literacy, and community activism. During this session, the Fellows learned firsthand about participatory budgeting—a democratic process that allows community members to directly decide how to allocate a portion of a public budget.
In conjunction with CTData’s analysis of eviction disparities statewide, 2024 Hartford Youth Data Fellows analyzed eviction filings data across Hartford neighborhoods, and brought in additional datasets on housing costs, rental assistance, and physical and mental health to better understand the impact of evictions across the city and within neighborhoods.
On May 20, 2024 the Hartford Data Collaborative hosted its annual Hartford Data Walk. The ten 2024 Hartford Youth Data Fellows (HYDF) presented data projects related to library engagement, home ownership, and the impact of evictions in Hartford. The Data Walk showcases the youth fellows' work and promotes data engagement among community members around key issues in Hartford.

Promoting Equitable Pandemic Recovery for Hartford’s Young Children
In 2023, CTData partnered with the City of Hartford’s Division of Early Learning in the Department of Families, Children, Youth and Recreation to understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the early care and education experiences and the development of young children in Hartford, and the supports that child care providers and families need. We analyzed administrative records from Hartford’s Early Childhood Data System, conducted a survey of Hartford child care providers, and facilitated focus groups with parents of young children in Hartford.
