Positive Childhood Experiences

Youth Perspective

Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) are factors that have been found to promote healthy child development and well-being. These factors can also buffer against the effects of ACEs.

The Youth Report consists of data reported by Connecticut high school students through the Youth Risk Behavioral Survey (YRBS), known in Connecticut as the CT School Health Survey (CSHS). The YRBS-CSHS includes seven PCE indicators measuring experiences related to family dynamics, the presence of caring adults in the youth's life, and engagement in activities such as sports and community volunteerism.

Overall PCEs Data

95% of youth reported experiencing at least one PCE, with 56% experiencing five or more, with a maximum of seven PCE indicators.
